Welcome to the website for the radio series “Grow it, Cook it, Eat it” presented by Michael Lemass and currently being broadcast on Dublin South FM 93.9 who are located on the top floor of the largest shopping centre in Ireland: Dundrum.
Oh the irony…..
“No shoppers, turn around, go to irishseedsavers.ie and buy seeds and plant your own food!! Compost your organic waste into nutrients!! Grow your veggies organically and dont buy the chemical, oil derived stuff in the shops here!!! Its more fun and more healthy to grow your own!!!
Get your hands and clothes dirty!!
Dirtiness is happiness!!
Save the planet!!
Learn to cook!!!!
Get a life!!!!”
Ok let’s get it straight: Food that you have grown yourself (organically of course!!) has to be the tastiest, freshest and healthiest food you can eat so that’s what this series is all about with a particular emphasis on thinking about food as medicine.
The series is also going to look at the importance of things like seed saving, rainwater harvesting, permaculture, organic techniques as well as the social and cultural aspects of growing and eating food together.
Throughout the series we will be visiting gardens, allotments, community gardens, kitchens, farmers markets and some top vegetarian restaurants.
If you have heard the first program on June 17th then we would love to hear your opinion and hear what sort of growing, cooking and eating you are doing and anything else you want to share with us about food. Whats your favorite recipe? What was your favorite granny’s favorite recipe?
And if you havent heard our programs, aren’t in range or were out in the sun reading a book, snoozing in the grass or gardening, then don’t panic!! All is not lost!! You can hear all the programs here – just click on the one you want to hear in the left column and then let us know what your thoughts are!!
Thanks for visiting and keep in touch!
